My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them. I am not to inhibit them, but inhibition only comes with awareness. I drift toward submission to them, where I should break (the strength) weakness, which; can be done by mere decision and action in accordance, by “responsibility.” My objection to this is that I fear the substitution of a mask for the passion, a continually conscious mask, and a continual division of personality, the building of a new armor.
